🔑 Account & Login
How do I create an account?

Just open the app. Trick Dash creates an anonymous guest account automatically — no email, phone number, or sign-up form. You'll go through a quick onboarding (birthday, name, photo, location) and you're in.

Do I need an email or phone number?

No. Trick Dash never collects or stores your email address, phone number, or any personal identifiers. Your account is tied to your device. To secure it and sync across devices, set up a passkey in Settings > Account Security.

How do I log in on a new device?

Two options: Passkeys sync automatically between devices on the same platform (iCloud Keychain for Apple, Google Password Manager for Android/Chrome). Transfer codes are one-time 8-character codes that work across any platform. See our full cross-device login guide.

What is a passkey?

A passkey is a cryptographic key stored securely on your device that replaces passwords entirely. It uses Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or your device password. Only the public half is stored on our server — the private half never leaves your device. It's the same technology used by banks and major tech companies.

What is a transfer code?

A one-time 8-character code you generate in Settings > Account Security. Enter it on your new device to transfer your full account (profile, favorites, chats, everything). Valid for 24 hours, single use. Best for switching between Apple and Android.

I lost my device. Can I recover my account?

If you set up a passkey and your new device uses the same Apple ID or Google account, your passkey syncs through the cloud — just open Trick Dash and you're back in. If you never set up a passkey or saved a transfer code, your account can't be recovered. This is by design: we don't store identifying information, so there's no "forgot password" flow.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Delete Account, or visit trickdash.com/delete. Deletion is permanent and immediate — we don't do a 30-day hold. All your data (profile, photos, messages, favorites) is removed from our servers.

Can I use Trick Dash on multiple devices at the same time?

Yes. With a passkey, you can be logged in on multiple devices simultaneously. Your profile, favorites, and conversations stay in sync. Messages arrive in real time on all devices.

🛡️ Privacy & Safety
What data does Trick Dash store about me?

The minimum needed to make the app work: your profile info (name, age, bio, photos) and favorites. Messages are stored temporarily only for delivery — they're automatically deleted after your chosen retention period (1-14 days, default 7). We do NOT store your email (only a one-way hash if you verified), exact GPS coordinates (jittered 10-25m), birth date (only your age as a number), or health data in readable form (AES-256 encrypted).

How is my location handled?

Your exact GPS coordinates are never stored. A deterministic offset of 10-25 meters is applied before anything is written to the database. Other users see fuzzy distance buckets ("Steps away", "< 1 km", "3 km") instead of precise distances. You can hide your distance entirely in Settings.

Is my health data (HIV status, PrEP) visible to Trick Dash?

No. Health fields are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage. The database contains only ciphertext. The encryption key is a separate secret that isn't stored alongside the data. Your health info is decrypted only when served to users you've chosen to share it with.

How long are messages stored on the server?

Messages are stored on the server primarily to deliver them to users who go offline. When you're both online, messages fly through instantly via WebSocket. When the recipient is offline, the server holds the message until they come back — up to your retention limit.

You choose how long: 1 to 14 days (default is 7). After that, messages are permanently deleted from our servers. We can never restore messages older than your retention window. Older chat history lives only on your device — if you clear your browser data, it's gone.

How do I block or report someone?

Block: Open their profile and tap the 🚫 button, or use the action menu in a chat. Blocked users can't see you on the map, in the reel, or in any list. They can't message you.

Report: Open their profile, tap the ⋯ menu, and select Report. Choose a reason and add details. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. Serious violations (NCII, threats, trafficking) result in immediate ban and law enforcement referral.

Does Trick Dash sell my data?

No. We don't sell, share, or broker user data. There are no ads, no trackers, no third-party analytics SDKs. The app doesn't contain any advertising code. Our business model is the app itself, not your data.

Can I export or download all my data?

Yes. Go to Settings > Data & Privacy > Export My Data. You'll get a file with everything we have: profile info, photos, favorites, and message history. This is your right under GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA.

Is Trick Dash available everywhere?

Trick Dash is blocked in countries where using the app would put users at serious risk due to anti-LGBTQ+ laws, as well as OFAC-sanctioned countries. If you travel to a country with anti-LGBTQ+ laws that we don't block, you'll receive a one-time safety advisory notification.

Features
What is the Gallery (map view)?

The Gallery is the main view. It shows nearby profiles on a real map. Tap a pin to see their profile, swipe through the card tray at the bottom, or switch to Grid or Reel view using the tabs above the tray. Everyone has a Gallery profile — it's your public face on Trick Dash.

What is the Reel?

A slot-machine style discovery feed. Tap Spin to shuffle through nearby profiles. You can also enter Swipe mode (swipe right to favorite, left to pass). Profiles are grouped into themed batches like "Online Now" or "Nearby." It's a fun, fast way to browse.

How does Explore Cities work?

Tap the Explore tab to browse profiles in other cities before you travel. When you explore a city, you temporarily "roam" there — your profile appears to users in that city for up to 3 hours. You can see who's online, who's visiting, and upcoming events.

What are Favorites, Admirers, Matches, and Waves?

Favorites: People you've starred. Admirers: People who starred you. Matches: Mutual favorites. Waves: People who waved at you (a lighter "hey" gesture). All four lists are separated by mode — Gallery favorites stay in Gallery, Dark Room favorites stay in Dark Room.

How does live translation work?

Trick Dash supports 20 languages. When you see a 🌐 globe icon on a profile bio, shout, or chat message, tap it to translate into your language. The translation preserves tone, slang, and emoji. You can set your known languages in Settings so the globe only appears for languages you don't speak.

What are Flashes?

Ephemeral photos that disappear after 24 hours, similar to Stories. The Flash Bar appears at the top of your inbox. Gallery Flashes are moderated (no nudity). Dark Room Flashes allow adult content and are only visible to other Dark Room users in the web app.

How do albums work?

You can create public and private photo albums. Public album photos show on your profile. Private albums can be shared in chat — you choose who sees them and for how long (never expire, 1 hour, or 24 hours). The expiry countdown starts when the recipient first opens the album, not when you send it.

Can I partner-link with someone?

Yes. Open your partner's profile, tap the ⋯ menu, and select "Request Partner." They'll receive a request in chat with Accept/Decline buttons. Once accepted, you appear linked on each other's profiles. Both of you can unlink at any time.

How do Groups work?

Groups are location-based gatherings visible in the Dark Room. Create a group with a name, category, time, and optional cover photo. Other Dark Room users nearby can see it and join. Group chat is built in. You can also start a group chat from any conversation by tapping the + icon.

💬 Messaging
Are messages end-to-end encrypted?

Messages are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest on the server. They are not end-to-end encrypted in the WhatsApp/Signal sense — the server can read messages to enable features like translation, moderation, and push notifications. Messages are automatically deleted after your chosen retention period (1-14 days).

Can I unsend a message?

Yes. Long-press a message and tap Unsend. You have a 5-minute window. The message is removed from both sides.

Can I send photos in chat?

Yes. Tap the + button in a chat to send a single photo, share an album, share your location, or send a GIF. Photos are uploaded to our servers and served via signed URLs that expire after 1 hour (auto-refreshed when you open the chat).

Why can't I send links in messages?

URLs are blocked in messages, shouts, and group posts to prevent spam, phishing, and commercial solicitation. This is a safety feature. Location sharing and album sharing have dedicated buttons that work without URLs.

How do push notifications work?

On iOS, push notifications use Apple Push Notification service (APNs). On the web, they use the Web Push standard (VAPID). You'll be prompted to allow notifications when you first use the app. You can manage notification settings in your device's system settings.

😈 Dark Room
What is the Dark Room?

An optional anonymous second persona. Your Dark Room identity is completely separate from your Gallery profile — different name, different photo, different conversations. Only users who've also enabled Dark Room can see each other in this mode. It's designed for more explicit interactions with full anonymity.

How do I enable the Dark Room?

Go to Settings and tap "Enable Dark Room." You'll see an age verification interstitial confirming you're 18+, in a legal jurisdiction, and consenting to adult content. Once confirmed, you can switch between Gallery and Dark Room in Settings. You can also choose "Dark Room Only" during onboarding if you only want the anonymous experience.

Can someone connect my Dark Room and Gallery identities?

We've designed the system to prevent this. Dark Room uses a separate nickname, separate photo, and doesn't display your age. Your Gallery photos, name, and age are never shown in Dark Room contexts. Conversations are segregated by mode. The firewall between the two personas is enforced across every UI surface.

Is the Dark Room available on the iOS app?

No. The Dark Room is only available in the web app (app.trickdash.com). The iOS app is Gallery-only to comply with Apple's App Store guidelines. You can use the full web app in your mobile browser for Dark Room access.

What is the Stall Wall?

An anonymous shout board in Dark Room mode. Post a short message visible to nearby Dark Room users. Think of it as a local bulletin board. Posts are moderated for safety (no drug solicitation, no commercial content).

What is "Dark Room Only" mode?

An option during onboarding for users who only want the anonymous experience. Your profile is invisible in the Gallery — you only appear in Dark Room. You can upgrade to "Both" modes later in Settings by tapping "Enable Gallery Profile."

🔧 Troubleshooting
The map isn't showing any profiles.

Make sure location permissions are enabled for your browser or the Trick Dash app. The map needs your location to find nearby profiles. If you just signed up, it may take a moment for your profile to appear to others. Try pulling down to refresh, or switch to Grid view to confirm profiles are loading.

I'm not receiving push notifications.

Check that notifications are allowed in your device settings (Settings > Notifications > Trick Dash on iOS, or browser notification permissions on the web). If you denied the initial permission prompt, you'll need to re-enable it in your system settings. On iOS, make sure the app isn't in Low Power mode.

The app feels slow or is using a lot of battery.

Trick Dash uses WebGL for the map, which can be demanding on older devices. The app automatically pauses animations and reduces GPU usage when backgrounded. If you're experiencing issues, try closing other browser tabs or apps. On iOS PWA (home screen), performance is optimized but may still vary by device age.

My photo was rejected by moderation.

Gallery photos are moderated for explicit content — shirtless and swimwear photos are fine, but sexually explicit images are rejected. Dark Room photos have more lenient moderation (only extreme content like gore is rejected). If you believe your photo was incorrectly rejected, contact support@trickdash.com.

I see "Passkeys are not supported on this device."

Some older browsers don't support WebAuthn passkeys. Update your browser to the latest version. If it still doesn't work, use a transfer code instead — they work on every device. See our cross-device login guide for details.

The app is showing me profiles from the wrong city.

You might be in Explore mode. Check if there's a green "Exploring [City]" banner at the top of the screen. Tap the ✕ on that banner to return to your real location. If your GPS accuracy is low (e.g., on WiFi only), the app may estimate your position less precisely.

Age verification keeps asking me to verify.

Age verification is required in certain jurisdictions (UK, Australia, select US states). Once verified, the result is stored on your profile and you won't be asked again on the same account. If you're seeing it repeatedly, your verification may not have completed successfully — try again with good lighting for the selfie, and make sure your face is clearly visible.

Something else isn't working.

Try these steps: (1) Refresh the page or close and reopen the app. (2) Clear your browser cache (but NOT cookies/site data — that would log you out). (3) Check if the issue persists in a different browser. If none of that helps, email support@trickdash.com with a description of the issue and what device/browser you're using.
